ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund Enabling ASEAN Clean Power and Resilient Grids
The Castlerock team provides support to the project manager, expert support on all tasks and local experience as well as GEDSI and MEL expertise throughout the duration of the project. The tasks includes:
- Conduct research on alternative uses of young Coal-Fired Power Plants (CFPPs), identifying case studies of repurposing grid connections and exploring partnership options for (pre)-feasibility studies.
- Explore case studies and research how regional institutions can support regional power trading and grid flexibility, and review power planning transparency across ASEAN. This will be through stakeholder surveys with national transmission companies to identify support required from the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and alternative business models for ancillary services, as well as market mechanisms and energy storage requirements.
- Identify best practices in smart grid design and technical assistance required, engaging with potential collaborators to leverage expertise in grid modernisation and resilience strategies.
- Assess the feasibility of a regional coal power cap and trade market, building on case studies to provide insights on how to structure and regulate the market to foster cleaner energy development and reduce coal dependency across the region.
